The Gwalla Gwallas are a power trio from Libertyville, IL. Their music reflects influences from roots rock, blues and straight ahead rock and roll. Their sets include a mixture of original music and covers ranging from Bob Dylan to Jet - with an appreciation of the dynamic guitar styles of Eric Clapton and Jimi Hendrix. The band consists of Libertyville High School seniors Nick Guzman on bass, Jack Holland on guitar and Andrew Stone on drums.
The name 'The Gwalla Gwallas' was meant to hint at bassist Nick Guzman's South American roots. A google search later revealed that a Gwalla Gwalla is a native of Guatemala as well as a Hindu folk god from India. It is also the name of a copper mine in Australia and an African location along the upper Nile in Sudan. Their musical influences are almost as far-reaching as the definition of a Gwalla Gwalla; drawing inspiration from roots rock, blues, jam bands and straight ahead rock and roll.
When not playing music, members of the band have been known to earn academic distinction on the honor roll, excel on the soccer field or serve as valued employees at local businesses. To learn more about each player click on their photo.
